Ying Yong said since China and Israel have seen consistent and healthy development of bilateral relations since the establishment of their diplomatic ties. In recent years, Shanghai and Israel have traditional and profound friendship, and the two sides have steadily pushed forward their pragmatic cooperation and scored great successes. Since becoming sister cities in 1993, Shanghai and Haifa have carried out diversified exchanges in the economic, trade, urban construction, cultural and other areas and deepened cooperation. He is most pleased to see the successful participation by Shanghai International Port (Group) Company in the operation of the newly built port in Haifa and hoped the project will become a model for cooperation between the two cities and between Shanghai and other port cities in the world. Today, Shanghai is stepping up the building of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone and a global science & technology innovation center and we welcome Israeli and Haifa businesses to take an active part in it and achieve growth with us. We will also encourage Shanghai enterprises to go to Israel and Haifa to invest. We will, with the Haifa mayor’s current visit as an opportunity, further strengthen cultural and personnel exchange and boost cooperation in science & technology innovation, construction and management of infrastructural facilities, tourism and other areas.

Yona Yahav said Shanghai occupies an important place in the minds of the Israelis. Next year will mark the 25th anniversary of sister-city ties between Haifa and Shanghai, and he called for the two cities to further expand and deepen cooperation, increase exchange of experience in development and promote practical cooperation in science & technology, education, medical & health and other areas, on top of economic, trade, port and cultural cooperation.
