The invitation letter needed for visa application must be issued by the inviter. Foreign nationals hired by entities registered in Shanghai must apply for employment visa. The employer must first obtain work permit for foreign national from the Shanghai Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, and then get Confirmation Letter of Invitation issued by the Shanghai Municipal Foreign Affairs Office. Foreign nationals hired need to present both work permit and Confirmation Letter of Invitation to apply with their local Chinese embassy or consulate for employment visa.
