Two Cases Added and 18 Local Cases Related to Each Other

Shanghai Municipal Health Commission updated the following information at the press conference on COVID-19 control in Shanghai this afternoon:

From 00:00 to 24:00 on January 29, Shanghai reported another two local cases. Their information is as follows:

 

Case 1, a resident of Huangpu District, is a close contact of the case confirmed on January 21(They are a couple) and has been put under centralized quarantine for observation since January 21. The case developed symptoms during the quarantine and was diagnosed as a confirmed case of COVID-19 after comprehensive assessment of epidemiological survey, clinical data, laboratory testing and imaging examination results.

Case 2, a resident of Baoshan District, is a close contact of the case confirmed on January 21 (They are relatives) and has been put under centralized quarantine since January 21. The case was also diagnosed as a confirmed case of COVID-19 after comprehensive assessment of epidemiological survey, clinical data, laboratory testing and imaging examination results.

These two cases were found after we placed them under centralized quarantine, monitoring and screening. Their contacts are also under centralized isolation for medical observation. We have completed terminal disinfection in the places where the cases went and stayed.  

Upon the emergence of new confirmed cases, the municipal- and district-level authorities acted promptly by assembling a joint expert team to carry out comprehensive epidemiological survey, trace and screen related personnel. These authorities also took corresponding disease prevention and control measures on related personnel and environment.

 

All the 18 local confirmed cases are being treated in Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center. Among them, 16 are moderate cases, and two are mild cases. All of them are receiving treatments based on their symptoms.


As of 24:00 on January 29, we have traced a total of 380 close contacts and placed them under centralized isolation. In total, 368 of them tested negative in the nucleic acid testing, and 12 were diagnosed as confirmed cases (They have been included in the 18 confirmed cases reported to the public).

 

We have also traced a total of 1,021 close contacts of the close contacts, and put them under centralized isolation. Their nucleic acid results are negative.

 

We have screened a total of 53,863 related personnel and deployed corresponding management and control measures. Among them, 53,860 tested negative, and three were diagnosed as confirmed cases (They have been included in the 18 confirmed cases reported to the public). The personnel related to the two confirmed cases announced today tested negative in the nucleic acid testing.

 

As for the related articles and environment, we have screened 5,168 samples. In total, 5,133 of them tested negative, and 35 tested positive and relate to the residences and work places of the confirmed cases. Regarding the article and environment samples taken from the places related to the two confirmed cases, they tested negative. 

 

We would like to briefly review the screening of the 18 confirmed cases. The three cases released on January 21 for the first time were found after we carried out screening. The next 12 cases were found among close contacts, and the rest three were spotted in the screening. All the 18 cases are related to each other.

Shanghai is still in a critical period of COVID-19 control, so we hope that our citizens stay vigilant for each other and never drop our guard.

We recommend no leaving Shanghai or China unless the trips are really necessary. We encourage you stay put in your places of work or residences this Spring Festival to minimize the flow of people or gathering for parties or dinners.

 

When you receive any mail or package from overseas origins or the medium-and high-risk regions in the country, we advise you should disinfect the surfaces of these mails or packages at the start. Before dealing with cooked food or after handling fresh food, you must wash your hands thoroughly and not touch your mouth, nose or eyes before washing. When you deal with the processed food, we advise you should use sperate kitchen utensils like cutting boards, choppers and tableware for cooked and uncooked food. We advise you should often clean and disinfect kitchen tables and utensils after you have used them.

 

At it is important to ensure the health self-protection, we would like our citizens to keep the following advice in mind. You should still wear face masks, cover your face when coughing or sneezing, keep social distancing, frequently wash your hands, and open windows for ventilation as much as possible. You should also keep an eye on your health monitoring and go to the fever clinic closest to your location immediately for seeking medical advice in case that symptom such as fever, dry cough, fatigue, or diminished sense of smell or taste emerges. You should wear medical face masks all the way to the clinic and keep a distance from others.
