Looking Back at the 20 Years of the "Window of Shanghai"

 

 

2002年9月，上海图书馆与南非德班市图书馆签订《友好合作备忘录》，首次开启“上海之窗”的国际之旅。自此，上海图书馆以图书交换为基础、以各类文化交流活动为支撑、以推广中华优秀传统文化为宗旨的文化交流品牌——“上海之窗”应运而生。

In September 2002, the Shanghai Library and the Deban Library in South Africa signed the Memorandum of Friendship and Cooperation, launching the first international journey of the "Window of Shanghai". Since then, the "Window of Shanghai", a cultural exchange brand of the Shanghai Library based on book exchanges, supported by various cultural activities and aimed at promoting the traditional Chinese culture, has emerged to meet the demands of the new era.

 

二十年来，“上海之窗”立足图书馆领域、服务于国家外交战略和城市发展，在上海市委宣传部、上海市外办、外宣办、上海市友协等各级机构的领导下，为讲好中国故事、推动中华文化走出去做出了应有的贡献。

Over the past two decades, the "Window of Shanghai" has focused its work on the library field, serving the country’s diplomatic strategy and urban development. Under the leadership of the Publicity Department of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, the Shanghai Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, the Shanghai Municipal Publicity Office, the Shanghai Friendship Association and other institutions at all levels, it has made due contributions to telling the Chinese story to the world and promoting the Chinese culture.

 

发挥公共图书馆职能  建设中国特色文化交流共同体

Giving a Full Play to the Functions of Public Libraries and Establishing a Community of Cultural Exchanges with Chinese Characteristics

 

截至2022年9月，上海图书馆先后在全球6大洲75个国家和地区的177家机构开设“上海之窗。20年来，“上海之窗”累计捐赠纸质图书超过13万册；“上海之窗”网站提供可阅读的电子图书约3万种，涉及中、英、法、德、俄、日、韩等多个文种。

As of September 2022, the Shanghai Library has opened the "Window of Shanghai" in 177 libraries and institutions in 75 countries and regions on 6 continents. Over the past 20 years, the "Window of Shanghai" has donated more than 130,000 print books; the "Window of Shanghai" website provides about 30,000 titles of electronic books in Chinese, English, French, German, Russian, Japanese, Korean and other languages.

 

“上海之窗”的合作周期为3年。首批赠书为500种，每年增补100种左右。赠书清单在“上海之窗”的网站上供合作伙伴自主下载选书。“上海之窗”定期向合作伙伴收集反馈信息，以更好地开展采编工作。

The cooperation cycle of the "Shanghai Window" is 3 years. There are 500 titles of books for the first donation, and about 100 books added every year. The list of donated books is available on the website of the "Window of Shanghai" for our partners to download and select books independently. The "Window of Shanghai" regularly collects feedbacks from partners in order to enhance its collection development.

 

丰富项目载体  创新公共图书馆对外文化交流

Enriching the Project Carrier and Innovating the Cultural Exchange between Public Libraries

近年来，在图书交换基础上，大量的展览、讲座、论坛、征文活动进入到项目主体中，创新了公共图书馆对外交流的途径与方式。

In recent years, based on book exchanges, the project has organized a large number of exhibitions, lectures, forums and writing contest activities, creating new ways and means for public libraries to communicate with foreign countries.

 

载体1——“相聚上海”读书征文活动

Carrier 1 - "Shanghai Get-Together" Reading and Writing Contest

在“上海之窗”这一平台上延伸的“相聚上海”国际读书征文活动至今已连续举办了六届。征文活动促进了上海与世界城市之间的文化交流，并向世界传播中华优秀传统文化。

The "Shanghai Get-Together" International Reading and Writing Contest has been held for six times on the "Window of Shanghai" platform. This activity has promoted cultural exchanges between Shanghai and other cities around the world, and disseminated the traditional Chinese culture to the world.

 

载体2——上海国际图书馆论坛

Carrier 2 - Shanghai International Library Forum

由上海图书馆主办的上海国际图书馆论坛，自创办以来就得到了海外同行的支持。截至目前，这一中国图书馆届高级别的国际论坛已连续举办了十届，几乎每届论坛都吸引了来自几十个国家和地区的图书馆界代表参加。第十一届论坛也即将召开。

The Shanghai International Library Forum, organized by the Shanghai Library, has received supports from world library professionals since its inception. This high-level international forum organized in China has been held for ten times, and every forum attracted library representatives from dozens of countries and regions. The 11th Forum will be held soon.

 

立足“上海之窗”服务国家战略和城市发展

Based on the "Window of Shanghai and Serving the National Strategy and Urban Development

2004年，“上海之窗”被纳入国新办“中国图书馆对外推广计划(CBI)”，同年首次作为市级交流项目落户埃及亚历山大图书馆；2008年，首次与英国爱丁堡大学孔子学院成为合作伙伴；2011年，“上海之窗”迈进法国巴黎中国文化中心；

In 2004, the "Window of Shanghai" entered the "China Book International (CBI)" project of the State Council Reform Office, and was first settled in the Alexandria Library of Egypt as a municipal foreign exchange project in the same year;In 2008, it became a partner with the Confucius Institute in the Edinburgh University for the first time;In 2011, the "Window of Shanghai" entered the Chinese Cultural Center in Paris, France;

2017年6月，时任上海市委书记韩正专程参观位于意大利佛罗伦萨中意设计中心的“上海之窗”；2022年2月，上海市长龚正与新西兰达尼丁市长亚伦·霍金斯视频连线，见证上海图书馆与新西兰达尼丁公共图书馆“上海之窗”专项合作备忘录签署。

In June 2017, Han Zheng, then Secretary of Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, paid a special visit to the "Window of Shanghai" at Sino-Italian Design Exchange Center in Florence, Italy; In February 2022, Gong Zheng, Mayor of Shanghai, made a video connection with Aaron Hawkins, Mayor of Dunedin, New Zealand, to witness the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation for the "Window of Shanghai" between the Shanghai Library and the Dunedin Public Library in New Zealand.

作为上海重要的公共文化窗口，上海图书馆在做好公共服务的同时，也努力服务于国家战略和城市发展。

As an important public cultural window in Shanghai, the Shanghai Library not only provides good services to the general public, but also strives to serve the national strategy and urban development.

 

1、响应“一带一路”国家战略构建“文化走出去”新平台

Responding to the National Strategy of the "Belt and Road" to Build a New Platform for the "Chinese Culture Going Global"

 “上海之窗”响应“一带一路”国家战略，20年来，我们的合作伙伴已覆盖同中国签订共建“一带一路”合作文件的49国的94家图书馆或相关机构。

The "Window of Shanghai" responds to the "Belt and Road" national strategy, and over the past 20 years, we have established partnership with 94 libraries or institutions in 49 countries that signed the "Belt and Road" cooperation document with China.

 

2、配合上海对外交流工作 助力民间外交

Supporting Shanghai's Foreign Exchange Work to Promote Non-governmental Diplomacy

在与上海建立了友好城市关系或友好交流关系的全球72个城市中，先后开设有“上海之窗”的友城共有51家，上海图书馆“上海之窗”的覆盖率超过70%。

Among the 72 cities in the world that have established sister city relations or friendly exchange relations with Shanghai, 51 sister cities have successively opened the "Window of Shanghai", and the coverage of the "Window of Shanghai" exceeds 70%.

 

20年来,“上海之窗”在各界关心下，获得不少荣誉，也得到了很多关注。20年来，“上海之窗”以书为缘、结缘世界，汇聚出一张图书馆民间外交的网络，为国内外图书馆乃至友城之间的文化交流提供了平台与资源，源于图书，超越图书。

Over the past 20 years, the "Window of Shanghai" has won many honors and received great attentions from people in all circles. Over the past 20 years, with books as a link, the "Window of Shanghai" has established friendship relations with the world, creating a network of folk diplomacy in libraries, providing platforms and resources for cultural exchanges between domestic and foreign libraries and even sister cities. It originated from books and has gone far beyord books.

 

“上海之窗”将在新的历史背景下，秉承创新驱动、开放透明、动态递进、文化安全、适合有度、中国特色的发展原则，踏实耕耘、创新奋进，期待在市委市政府各级部门的指导和关怀下，再创辉煌。

In the new historical background, the "Window of Shanghai" will adhere to the development principles of being innovation driven, open and transparent, dynamic and progressive, and promote cultural security, suitability and Chinese characteristics, work hard, innovate and forge ahead, and look forward to creating brilliance under the guidance of the Municipal Party Committee and government departments at all levels.
